Does The Banana Diet Really Work?

The Banana Diet, which started in Japan has now spread into the Western World and has subtly changed into what is now called the Western Banana Diet. What is different about the two forms of the same diet, the original Japanese Banana Diet that has evolved into the Western Banana Diets, that's what many people eager to lose weight are asking.
Does this diet, said by many to be just about the cheapest and simplest diet around really cause people to lose weight?
What is the western adaptation of the diet, referred to as the Western Banana Diet?

Are the terms 'western', 'morning', and Japanese Banana Diet all referring to essentially the same diet, or are there real variations between them?

The big claim of all the banana diets is that you can eat normal meals through the day, after your special breakfast, and still lose weight even without doing any more exercise then you are doing now. And it's so cheap that the Banana Diet costs no more than a cup of coffee a daily!
